Spring is upon us and what does that mean? Warmer weather, chirping birds, and a new wardrobe of clothes. I LOVE TO SHOP. I live in one of coolest towns because there are more than two hundred and fifty factory outlet and specialty shops to choose from. Today is a perfect day for shopping, but then again, what day isn’t ?
So here is a typical day: I’ll start walking the streets of North Conway Village.  First, I come across Aaron Hats (www.getahaton.com). All the hats are reasonably priced, which makes the cute, brown, newsboy cap hard to resist. Plus they now carry all the major league hats for baseball and football. Across the street is Eastern Mountain Sports (www.ems.com) located at the Eastern Slope Inn.  I would really like a new, North Face, black fleece, which would be great for this time of year.  Near EMS, is New England Charms and Imports (www.newenglandcharms.com). Their sterling earrings are always buy one, get one-half price, which is such a great deal!  Then I might head over to International Mountain Equipment (www.imeusa.com) and look at all the great climbing gear they have on sale. Once I’m done there, I’ll head over to Sawyer River Trading Company (www.sawyerriver.com). This store has everything you could want for kitchenware and gadgets. Thousands of items actually. Names like Viking, Calphalon, All Clad, Wusthof, Henckels….and so many more….and all in such a cute little store.  Nearby is Olympia Sports (www.olympiasports.com) where I may pick up some Red Sox hats and tees. From there I’ll head over to Zeb’s General Store (www.zebs.com) for my sweet tooth.  They have one of the longest penny candy counters in the world!  In fact, everything in there is made in New England. Next to Zeb’s is The Penguin Shop (www.thepenguinonline.com)-a very cool gift store with great quality items. They have jewelry and tons of penguin things.  A couple of weeks ago I found the Happy Feet soundtrack CD there and they also have birdhouses, lawn ornaments, pottery, and so much more.  This shop is awesome!
Oh my God, I am starving!  I need food stat!  Peaches has the best homemade soups and quiches.  Elvio’s Pizza rocks!  Oh gosh, I don’t know where to go.  I think I’ll try the Up Country Saloon today.  After lunch, I’ll head to The Sound Resort (www.thesoundresort.com) south of North Conway Village to look at their surround sound systems and get a new battery for my Verizon cell phone.  Next, I’ll head to Wal-Mart (www.walmart.com). There I’ll pick up some makeup and shampoo. They actually have a huge makeup department…..and since we don’t exactly live in a metro area…..I’m psyched to have so many products to chose from.
If they don’t have the book I want at my favorite bookstore, White Birch Books in North Conway Village, I’ll take a look for it at Walmart since their book section may have it. It’s called The Measure of a Man: A Spiritual Autobiography by Sidney Poitier, which was chosen by Oprah’s book club.  I’ll probably check out the movie section too for The Departed. So much eye candy in that flick not to mention….a suspenseful story line.   From Wal-Mart I’ll walk to Reebok, Adidas, and Nike in search for some new running sneakers and then head over to Banana Republic.  I found a really cute, metallic, hobo handbag at Banana last week that will be great for any season.  They also had some jean capris that would go perfectly with my fav pair of Cole Haan high heels.  After BR, I’ll go to J. Crew.  They have a fun selection of flip-flops ranging in colors and patterns.  Also, they have my favorite tank tops that come in the coolest colors.  After J. Crew, I need to go to Norm Thompson (www.normthompson.com). Norm Thompson has great gift items that are perfect for Mother’s and Father’s Day.  The iPod Travel Mate Speaker Set caught my eye last week as did their selection of gourmet goodies.  Woolrich (www.woolrich.com) is another great store there.  They now have the cutest clothes.   Speaking of Father’s Day….I have to head over to Super Shoes for a pair of Harley motorcycle boots and Hi Tec hiking shoes he’s requested the past two years..  He doesn’t ask for much so I really want to surprise him this year. For Mom, I’ll make one last stop at Pfaltzgraff (www.pfaltzgraff.com) and take a look at some fun summer dinner and glassware. She’s been wanting to change colors in the kitchen and they have the best selection of anywhere I have ever been.
Whew, I’m exhausted!  I never thought I would say this, but I think I’m done shopping for the day! North Conway sure is the place to be in New England when it comes to factory outlet and high end retail stores.  Everything from sporting goods to jewelry… clothing to furniture…. its all here within a quick drive or walk. Be sure to check out all there is to do, see, and eat in the Valley…one of the best year round resorts in the country…..See you soon…..like, maybe next month……when I start planning my shopping itinerary….for my boyfriend’s birthday……one for him….one for me…..one for him….two for me…..

Bye bye for now……….Alie
